The public is invited to a free event on December 22, 2021, at the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH): the Sun Dagger Winter Solstice Event with Dr. Bruce Love.
The event begins at 4:00 PM with a brief talk led by local anthropologist Dr. Bruce Love in the South Gallery. Viewers are then invited to the Jewel Box on the second floor to witness the sun dagger hitting a predetermined target at the exact time of sunset: 4:47 PM. Afterward, a winter solstice-inspired craft will be held in the MOAH classroom until 6:00 PM.
The Solstice Event will be streamed live via Zoom, and the recording will be shared with the public at a later date. The sun dagger and target are installed at MOAH year-round, but the perfect alignment of the two happens only once a year!
